On the tracks of the Italo-Western

Geosfilm has visited the original locations of the Italo-Western: This is the basis for the documentary which shows the origin and the developement of the Italo-Western. Hubert Schönegger was there with his assistant Alexander Zeidler. Now the first part of “Denn sie kennen kein Erbarmen” (en: because they don’t know mercy) ready and was already on air on the broadcasters ARD and ARTE.

The beginnings of the genre are in the 60s, during the crisis of the Italian movie business. Movies like “Django”, “Sartana”, “Sabata”, “Navajo Joe”, “Keoma”, “Dynamite Joe”, “Pale Rider”, “A fist full of dollars”, “Once Upon a Time in the West” were made.

The movies where shot in locations similar to deserts, around the cities of Rome (Italy) and Almeria (Spain). The heroes are no shooters or Cowboys, but villains. The main topics are money and vengance. The soundtrack had a new, much more important role in the movies, becoming an determinating element for the action.

Geosfilm was on set, involved in the work, having the opportunity to walk on the paths of Sergio Leone, Clint Eastwood and other stars of the cinema.
